Reprinted from Salem News “Stars shine at NEC Gymnastics Championships

To the surprise of no one, three-time state champion and Penn State bound Bella Misiura of Masconomet was chosen as the Most Valuable Gymnast at the Northeastern Conference Championships Saturday night at the Sterling Center YMCA in Beverly.

Misiura, a senior for the defending state champion Chieftains and a Level 10 gymnast, averaged a 38.7 during the regular season as her team finished unbeaten once again in NEC competition.

At Saturday’s championships, Marblehead senior superstar Maeve McIlroy turned in a terrific performance to win the All Around with a score of 37.55. The Brown University commit, who is also a Level 10 gymnast, was first in both the vault (9.65) and uneven bars (9.40) while placing second on both the balance beam (9.10) and the floor exercises (9.40).

Masconomet also had some excellent individual performances Saturday night. Fallon Eberhardt took top honors on the beam (9.45) and was second on vault (9.50), with Janey Young soaring to a first place finish on floor (9.50). Teammates Kate Mugge (3rd on floor, 9.35) and senior captain Kenna Myazaki (5th on vault, 8.95) also performed well.

Allison Dana took second for Marblehead on bars (8.30), and fellow Magician Jamie Andrews came in third on beam (8.80).

For Beverly, freshman Carli Moran‘s strong performance on the floor (9.00) earned her a fourth place score. Lily Robinson, a senior captain for the Panthers, turned in a strong routine to take fifth in the All Around (31.65).

Kameya Perron of the combined Gloucester/Ipswich team finished third on the vault (9.20) and fifth on floor (8.75), allowing her to finish second place in the All Around (33.05).

Senior captain Hannah DeSilites of Essex Tech was a fourth place finisher on beam (8.75). Junior Brooke Medico also shined for the Hawks, taking third in All Around (31.95).

Hamilton-Wenham/Manchester Essex’s Norah Keys placed fifth on bars (7.80), as did Amelia Franklin on beam (8.60). Keys placed fourth in the All Around (31.75) as well.

Elsewhere, Winthrop’s Zoe Rey (8.20) and Isabella Rice (8.00) claimed third and fourth, respectively, on bars, while Macy Werstak placed fourth on vault (9.05)

The Northeastern Conference gymnastics all-stars, based on their season averages, were as follows:

VAULT: Janey Young, Masconomet (9.3), Callie Donovan, Danvers (9.225)

BARS: Camryn Donovan, Danvers (9.525), Ava Nolan, Masconomet (9.512)

BEAM: Kate Mugge, Masconomet (9.4625), Fallon Eberhardt, Masconomet (9.375)

FLOOR: Natalia Cafarelli, Masconomet (9.25), Carli Moran, Beverly (9.175)

ALL AROUND: Kaylee Wescott, Danvers (38.6375), Maeve McIlroy, Marblehead (37.8)

MOST VALUABLE GYMNAST: Bella Misiura, Masconomet (38.7)

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: Masconomet
